It’s That Time

I regularly receive  gratitude lists from my friends in the program.  I, however, rarely write one myself.  Today I am going to make an exception.

I am grateful for being clean and sober (we hear that all the time, but it is the truth)

I am grateful for a kind, loving, tender-hearted son who is the joy of my life.

I am grateful for my family members (the ones who are talking to me), and all my friends for their continued support of letting me be who I am.

I am grateful for this wonderful job that lets me live, work and practice my sober journey on a daily basis.  I can’t believe I get paid to do this!

I am grateful for my boss, Melissa, my soul sister, my dear friend, my confidant and my employer, who gives me the freedom and respect that allows me to have the dignity and support that every human being deserves.  I love you, Melissa.

I am grateful for my friend and co-worker on The Second Road, Alix, who is one of the most talented and innovative people I know.  She is one of the few people I know who can combine integrity with incredible humor and, besides, she’s cute as a button.

I am grateful for my doggies - they are one of the prime examples of God’s love for me.  They never judge, always love and give me joy beyond words.

I am grateful for a life that I never thought possible - full to the brim with the joys I would have never imagined possible when I was using.  Being clean and sober has offered me a plethora of wonderful possibilites - Every morning I wake up and stick my hand into the candy bowl of life and I never know what good stuff  I’m going to grab for the day.

I am grateful that I can pay my bills, put food on my table, that I can go to the movies when I want, that I have a membership at a gym, that I can keep a pretty nice little roof over my head and that I still can financially help people and causes that are important to me.

And finally, I am grateful to Murph for introducing himself to me when I was sitting alone in my jail cell years ago, not knowing who God was, or even if there was a God.

This one’ s for you, Murph

Till Next Time -

Your Humble Road Warrior

Ditto on the gratitude warrior. We’re all warrior’s on the sobriety journey. I’m very grateful to have you for a friend and soul mate too. Tom

Road Warrior, I TOTALLY agree with your descriptions of your son, Melissa (never met her) and your friend and coworker Alix–perfect, and also the pups! But I never heard the Murph story. Sometime?. Unless it’s private, in which case I’m a snowball in hell…I absolutely LOVE Gratitude posts. Thank you. And bless you.
    Love, Steve
