gratitude

i watch the dawn

spreading a hint

of light over far eastern skies

melting away

deep shadows dark

drying up tears in my eyes

light that shrinks shadows

changing the forms

that haunt into those of ease

displacing the dark

with rays of hope

i gratefully soak in some peace

another day

is granted to me

to live a life worth living

to do what’s right

to make amends

give back what to me’s been given
