Come Watch Me Suffer in Elegant Prose

My blog stats always fascinate me. From figuring out how people make their way to my site to seeing when I get peaks and valleys in my visits and page views, I’m kind of an Analytics Junky.
This week, for instance, I got one visitor who lingered for nearly 10 minutes who found me with the query “how to help a heroin junkie.” Someone spent 7 minutes and 11 seconds reading me after searching for “junky warning signs.” Others found me by searching:
- “drug junkie wife”
- “angry with the heroin addict i’m helping”
- “is krishna das married?”
- “spiders in dreams”
- “cause i felt like a junkie every day”
- “junky’s wife picture” (This one really freaks me out. Stop trying to look at me! You’ve got front row seats to the breaking of my heart. You don’t need to know the color of my eyes.)
- “i’ll never be good enough after heroin addiction”
- “heroin addicts are kind”
- “what to do when you hate your husband”
- “happy birthday you cunt”
- “he is trying to control me with spells”
- “blogs i hate my husband”
I don’t know why I get such pleasure out of looking at these keyword strings. They amuse me to no end. I feel like I get a little window into the minds of people who find me, and I especially enjoy understanding how people got to me when they stick around. Even “I want somebody online to fuck” stayed and read for a whole minute. What could he or she have found in my site that answered their query’s needs?
I also like watching the peaks and valleys. I always get dips on the weekends, and then big jumps on Monday mornings. Folks go home for the weekends and ignore the blogosphere, but wake up on Monday mornings and rush to their offices to read what happened to their favorite bloggers over the weekend. I like being folks’ distractions from the workday.
People read a lot when I’m posting a lot, and they read a lot when I’m really suffering. I thought I should add a line under the title: “Come watch me suffer in elegant prose!” or “Schadenfreude at its finest!”
I love everything about this virtual world. I love writing here and on my site, and I love looking at what makes people come. I love building new things, and I love all the tweaks and tools and toys to make it work better.
Maybe I needed a day in bed.

I agree, when you have a blog, it is really fascinating to see what search queries bring people to the site. For me personally, I find it slightly disappointing that my favorite stuff is never the stuff that draws the most traffic, and the stuff that draws the most traffic is often times sparked by some throw away line that, perhaps, was only meant in jest. But still, the online world is somehwhat anonymous, and the search queries are one of the main ways that authors get some sense of their audience, so, for that reason, they are incredibly interesting.
“girl fucks deer” is a popular query for accidently finding mine (davkadeergirl.com) these things always crack me up as well.
i think its interesting that people find yours looking for help. i found specific help in your blog that i couldn’t find anywhere else.
I also find the search queries really interesting. However, mine are often more heart-breaking than comical. So heartbreaking, in fact, that I wrote an entire post about them on my blog a couple months ago. I get most of my visitors from people searching for info on “intrusive thoughts.” Intrusive thoughts of suicide, intrusive thinking about death, depression and intrusive thoughts, tired and I don’t want to live anymore, depression and fatigue stealing my life… Those are just a few. It breaks my heart, but it also reinforces why I started my blog to begin with; to help people, offer hope, let people know they are not alone, and educate others about mental illness.
It’d be interesting to know how people land here.
