Yogasm.

A friend of mine recently wrote a blog post referencing my tendency to write yoga-gasms on my blog, and I thought it was a hilarious expression…and then I thought it was more hilarious to shorten it again to yogasm. I do yogasm, a lot…yoga changed my life. It’s a part of the trinity of my recovery…Nar-Anon, yoga, and writing have helped me live through the hardest time I’ve ever had. I’ve got all these tools now, this rich mixed bag…and my stomach looks great, too!

I lured another Nar-Anon friend into the yoga class today, and I’m afraid she’ll never speak to me again. It’s hot in my class, so I experience terror when I bring a new person. I find it exhilarating to share my practice with new folks, though…and it made me think about my missionary tendencies.

That’s part of what I love about blogging and about Nar-Anon…the carrying the message part. There is a fine line, though, in being a person who represents possibilities of health, wellness, and recovery from addiction and its effects, and being a person who is smug and bossy. I don’t want to be smug and bossy. I do think that everyone I meet needs to join a 12 step program and undertake a vigorous yoga practice. That’s right, readers…I’m looking at you.

So I’m working on it, my balance. I’m working on reigning in the missionary behavior and trying instead to be the change I’d like to see. Quoting Gandhi is very yoga-12-steppy, isn’t it?

I love the name “yogasm” - What a clever idea. I’m addicted (and I’m not ashamed to use the word) to a practice called Nia - a combination of body movement, yoga, and various martial arts. If I don’t get in 3-5 sessions a week I do not even closely resemble a human being.
And as for quoting Gandhi - who cares how trendy it is? It’s the truth.
Thanks, as always, for your wisdom

Yogasm is a fantastic word and I approve of it! Far better than my own!

I’m not sure if I agree 100% with everyone needing a twelve step program, but I do believe that the idea behind it is a good one!

Yeah, I don’t mean to think that everyone needs a 12-step either. I can’t stop myself right now, though. I’ll figure it out.

    Yogasm! I love it.

I am addicted to both yoga and Nia - but I like the super-gentle Viniyoga. Do you do Bikram?
