It’s Getting Closer…

Here’s at ya’ from the almost there, just about finished, soon to be interactive and ready to launch website! As the days get closer and closer to launch, the dream is becoming a reality and all our work is coming together to produce the vision Melissa first dreamed about over a year ago. It’s been a long road (in the literal and figurative sense) and the journey is just beginning, but we’re almost there and the excitement around this place is tangible. I can almost see the sparks of energy every time I walk in the office (or is it a short in the ceiling light?).

Launching the site during National Recovery Month is not a coincidence - this is the perfect time for everyone to know that recovery is here to stay - that addicts come in every shape and form, come from every socio-economic and cultural background and are neighbors, co-workers, church members, politicians, waiters, celebrities, average-Joe’s - I could go on and on - you get the picture. We are also here to spread the voice of strength and hope - the strength and hope that come when we can ally ourselves with others who have had similar experiences and can meet our outstretched hands and connect to the chain of recovery that makes us whole.

During our first weeks live, I’ll be introducing you to The Second Road team, one by one, so you can get to know the people who have worked so hard for so little (and I really mean “so little”) to make this vision happen. I’ll start off with Melissa, whose dream was the seed from which this beautiful tree has blossomed. You’ll get to see a close up picture of her (she’s such a doll!) and get to know more about her roots, her journey and her goals. Working with her has been an experience - I have rarely seen a person so devoted to a cause - she eats, drinks and breathes The Second Road and it’s that contagious commitment that has fueled the rest of us for the last year. Don’t worry though, I’ll also let you in on a few of her secrets, like the fact that she bites her cuticles - just to keep her humble! Ha! I love this job! Where else could I write something like that for the whole world to see?
